Magic Coast’s Panther Media System adds Facebook Live support

CHICAGO, IL. – November 14, 2016
for immediate release

Today, Magic Coast announced support for Facebook(R) live streaming in its Panther Media System. The Panther System is an end-to-end video streaming and e-Learning platform for mission critical on-line events, webcasts and webinars. The system includes a family of hardware encoding products that are cloud-managed and remotely controlled.

Facebook users are now able to easily stream live video from mobile devices through the Facebook Live Video app. But, the relatively poor quality and reliability of this new mobile feature limits its value to organizations who really care about their brand image. Using a Panther Media Encoder and the Magic Coast system, professional and corporate webcasters are ensured of a much higher quality video stream which translates into a happier audience.

Anyone who has ever presented a live video webinar or town hall webcast knows that there are many technical difficulties that can stand in the way between an outstanding presentation and a dismal disaster that the audience is unable to see or hear properly.

“That’s what we help you with.” Said Bill Dunning, CEO of Magic Coast. “We specialize in delivering highly reliable interactive streaming and eLearning content. Our service is fully managed from start to finish. It requires no plug-ins or special downloaded apps so it gets through most firewalls – allowing you to focus on delivering your message, not technical mumbo-jumbo or the troubleshooting that is inevitable with live Internet video streaming.” Dunning continued.

Magic Coast has been in the online video business for over 10 years. The many horror stories witnessed over the years inspired Magic Coast to build an entirely new kind of streaming service. One that is highly resilient, has built-in fail-over protection and load balancing.

School of Music Theatre & Dance lowers the cost of live streaming on campus

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – November 1, 2016, for immediate release

The University of Michigan, School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) is utilizing a newly installed automated video streaming system.

The automated system provided by Magic Coast consists of a multi-channel Panther Media Encoder – Plus Edition TM and cloud-based encoder management system. “The Panther system remotely controls our encoders anywhere in the world, so automatically starting and stopping live streams on a schedule was already part of the system.” Said Bill Dunning, CEO of Magic Coast. The Panther Plus features multiple SDI input channels and 1 TB of built-in cloud storage. “Further automation is being integrated into the University’s facility reservation system to provide a simple and seamless experience for users of the facilities.” Dunning stated.

Expanded and updated in 2015, the SMTD Earl V. Moore Building renovation incorporated SDI video cabling from five venues back to a central control room where they are connected to a dedicated, Panther video encoder. Venues included in the system are the Hankinson Rehearsal Hall, Davis Technology Studio, Watkins Lecture Hall, McIntosh Theatre, and Britton Recital Hall.

“One of the things we liked about Magic Coast’s system was its ability to easily work with our existing Kaltura CDN relationship,” noted Andrew Wollner, Music & Multimedia Computer Specialist. “That meant we could continue using our existing work-flow and distribution while eliminating the time consuming manual tasks of setting up, starting and stopping every streaming event. This technology will enable us to stream more events and meet the growing demand for live streaming among our students and faculty.” Wollner added.

Installation of the new system will free up staff resources from tedious, routine tasks providing a significant return on investment. The Magic Coast system also includes e-Learning components that incorporate real-time interactivity into a streaming event, such as viewer questions/comments, poll questions, subtitles, and other social engagement tools, although those features are not currently being utilized with this integration.

About SMTD: The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance educates the artists, scholars, educators, and entrepreneurs of the future. Students are prepared with expert skills, instilled with passionate enthusiasm, and emboldened to challenge and inspire the world through the power of the performing arts.

New live attendance reports, custom branding, and hardware enhancements now available.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – October 15, 2016

for immediate release

Magic Coast today announced the final roll-out of it’s latest hardware and software system. “Although it’s an incremental version update, version 5.3/4.4 (Cloud/Hardware) represents a significant upgrade to our system.” Said William Dunning, CEO, Magic Coast. “It has something for everyone – major hardware upgrades, new e-Learning features, improvements to the user experience for both the administrator and viewer, new real-time metrics options, and more.”

A highlight of the upgrade is the live viewer attendance report and other enhanced metrics. The new attendance report shows who is viewing, when they joined, when/if they left or returned. It gives the administrator a real-time view for accurate and well documented attendance reports.

Another major improvement is the ‘White-boxing’ of the viewer experience. Administrators are now able to manage the look and feel of the e-Learning interface to completely match their organizations branding and image. Standard CSS and custom graphic uploads are used to accomplish the fully custom look.

Other software enhancements include:

  • Use pre-recorded or live capture video inputs
  • New graph showing how many live viewers are on line at any time
  • New detailed polling reports, tracking answers by viewer

Important hardware enhancements are also part of this upgrade. “We’ve expanded our hardware offering with two new encoders.” Dunning said. “This has allowed us to include such features as multi-channel SDI inputs, cloud storage and more”

Leading the hardware improvements is the Panther Encoder – Plus Edition. The Plus Edition includes a 1 Tera-byte local cloud storage (located on the hardware) for recording your stream. Users are able to record a live or pre-recorded event in original quality or stream quality, allowing archive of high quality video regardless of the final encoding quality.

Another important enhancement found on the Plus Edition is its 4 Channel SDI capture card. In addition, all Panther encoders are now able to encode up to 4 independent streams, creating a highly adaptable and flexible 4×4 system.

Other hardware enhancements include:

  • Auto-detect video input format for live capture on SDI or HDMI
    Internal HLS server
  • Elite Edition includes a Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio TM HD video switcher
  • Kaltura TM and Ustream TM RTMP certified
  • NBC/Comcast Wholesale TM certified
  • Compatible with CDN’s such as YouTube Live TM, Facebook TM and others.

Looking ahead to 2017, look for our new multi-channel conferencing application – providing a competitive solution for organizations who need highly resilient video conferencing without the exceedingly high cost of a full tele-presence system. Magic Coast is a leader in mission critical corporate communications systems.
